The European Mixed Poker Championship

The Norwegians LOVE mixed games, from the early days of the Norwegian Championship having just 2-3 tables of players testing their skills in the HORSE championship event; mixed games have gained popularity and the Norwegian Championship 8-game now hosts well above 100 unique players every year. With that being said it isn’t a surprise that the first ever European Mixed Poker Championship came together as an idea between the founder of the Norwegian Championship, Frode Fagerli, and the Norwegian mixed games phenomenon Tobias Jelsa Leknes.

The European Mixed Poker Championship is about way more than just the niche games of the world. The championship aims to share the passion and love for the games, to show the world that poker can be fun, engaging and full of camaraderie. Attending a mixed games festival is an unique experience, with talkative tables, a friendly atmosphere and a schedule which guarantees you hours of poker every day. Be prepared for one of the greatest weeks of poker you’ve ever experienced!

What to expect?

Making the schedule was always about finding the perfect mix for the mixed games lovers of the world. With affordable buy-ins and a chance for everyone to play two tournaments a day, the schedule gives the enthusiast 5 days of full action, while the players new to mixed games get a chance to broaden their poker horisont trying out some new variants. The Poker North Masters also runs parallel with the EMPC, if you want to bring a friend who prefers hold’em there are options every day starting on Tuesday the 12th. Take a full look at the schedule here: https://empc.live/the-european-mixed-poker-championship-returns/

There are plenty of tournaments on the schedule that you might not be familiar with. You can find all the information for each mix here:
All tournaments on the schedule are indeed a mix of different games, living up to the mixed games name. We know mixed games players love variation, and one of the most eye opening tournaments on the schedule might be the 6-game Mystery Bounty. Mystery Bounties have taken the poker world by storm, and all players surviving to the third break will be able to fight for their shot at the top bounty. 100€ from each buy-in will be making up the bounty prize pool, and at EMPC each bounty will be drawn with the help of a lottery ball machine!

The structures

The idea of the tournament structures is to allow for players to play most, if not all the events. All the events will feature 10 levels of latereg and reentry, giving you time to jump into another tournament, even after a deep run. If you look at the structure in detail, you might notice that the start stacks in terms of big bets might be lower than you’d expect. The reason is that we believe limit poker is more fun when every bet actually matters. Instead of starting with 50+ bigbets, you get 30-40 big bets – in return every tournament will have 2 or more double levels during the late-reg period. Also the mixes with both limit and big bet games, will have the early blind levels adjusted. This will make sure that the start stack, relative to the blinds in those high volatile big bet games, is higher!

The Big Bet Mix is the action paced kick-off, and could be looked at as a rebuy event, with a 20’000 starting stack giving you 50bb, and 20 min blinds during the re-entry period. The High-Low Mix, the 6-Game Mystery Bounty and the Draw mix will both feature a 30’000 startstack, 20 min long blind levels, and last for about 9-10 hours, meaning you can easily jump into the other tournament of the day even if you end up winning it all! The Dealer’s Choice will be the ultimate test of versatility, 30 min blind levels over two days of action. The Main Event will feature the best structure and will be the most prestigious event, as the most famous mix of poker puts the players to the ultimate test. 75’000 starting stack and 30 min blinds from the start, quickly jumping to 40 min levels from lvl 7 and onwards for this 2-day event.

The H.E.T.R.O.S. mix is a players favorite and will be the high-roller tournament of the series. Players are given a 100’000 start stack and 30 min blind levels to navigate through in this tournament, which will be a freezeout, giving a fair shot to anyone who wants to take on the challenge of a high-roller! The end of the series will feature the 10-game, 30’000 start stack, with 20 min blinds for the first 6 levels, then 30 min blinds for the rest of the tournament – making for a full day of mixed games heaven, before the series comes to an end.

If you haven’t had enough poker at the end of the EMPC, remember that there is plenty of action and all kinds of games running throughout the Poker North Masters series at the very same venue. Among the options you’ll find is an 800€ NLH 2-day event, a 350€ 400.000€ Guarantee No Limit Holdem 3-day tournament, plenty of PLO tournaments, as well as a HORSE and another 10-game tournament!

Welcome to Bratislava for a shot at mixed games trophies, new friends and days of joy!
