HOW TO PLAY

Fixed Limit Hold’em (FLH)

As in No Limit Hold’em you get dealt 2 hole cards, and you combine them with the 5 community cards to make the best 5 card poker hand. Normal hand rankings apply, and the community cards are dealt as a flop (3 cards), turn (1 card) and river (1 card).

What differs from the No Limit is the betting, although the order of betting is the same: The betting starts with a small and a big blind, action starts to the left of the big blind before the flop, and to the left of the button after the flop. There is a betting round at every street, preflop, flop, turn and river, for a total of 4 betting rounds. Preflop and flop will allow for betting and raises equal to a small bet (one big blind), on the turn and river you can bet and raise in limits of a big bet (two big blinds). A total of one bet and four raises is allowed on each street.

Playing the game live:

  • It’s usually a game played with a lot of pace, remember to take enough time to make calculated decisions, and act in turn!
  • If you’re unsure about the limits, how much to raise, or how much to call, ask the dealer!

Pro tips:

  • There is no ante in this game, the ranges tend to be slightly tighter and more high card heavy than what you might be familiar with from NLH.
  • Getting value is the single most important thing in this game, be sure to checkraise, raise and bet often enough for value!
  • 3b in a very aggressive manner is recommended, force yourself to either 3b more (except from the big blind), and if you do not think your hand is strong enough to 3b, then just fold!
