HOW TO PLAY

No Limit Hold’em (NLH)

In the most known poker version you get dealt 2 hole cards, and you combine them with the 5 community cards to make the best 5 card poker hand. It doesn’t matter how many cards you use from your hand, and how many you use from the board. The best hands are, in order:

  • Royal Flush
  • Straight Flush
  • Quads/Four of a kind
  • Full house
  • Flush
  • Straight
  • Trips/Three of a kind
  • Two pair
  • One pair
  • High Card

The betting starts with a small blind, a big blind, and a big blind ante, action starts to the left of the big blind before the flop, and to the left of the button after the flop. There is a betting round at every street, preflop, flop, turn and river, for a total of 4 betting rounds. As the name suggests there are no limits to what you can bet on any given street, so whenever you want you can go all-in! The minimum bet/raise is equal to a big blind, but also the size of the previous bet/raise on the current street.

Playing the game live:

  • Make sure to know what the action is before acting – not seeing an all-in in front of you, or acting out of turn could be costly!

Pro tips:

  • Aggression is a key in all forms of poker, if you can be a well timed aggressive player, you will be feared at the table!
  • Learn to think of poker in terms of ranges, which range of cards do you think your opponent will have, and what kind of range do you have? This will often suggest to you how to approach the situation!
