HOW TO PLAY

No Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Aim of the game is to make the worst possible poker hand. Everything that is normally good in poker, counts against you in 2-7; flushes, straights and pairs are all bad, aces are only high.

You get dealt five cards, and can draw as many cards as you like, but only once. The betting starts with a small, a big blind and a big blind ante, action starts to the left of the big blind pre draw, and to the left of the button after the draws. There is a betting round before and after the draw, for a total of 2 betting rounds. There are no limits to how much you can bet (you can go all-in whenever you want). The minimum bet/raise is equal to a big blind and/or the size of the last bet/raise. Limping is allowed.

The best possible hand is 7-5-4-3-2. Your hand strength is defined by the highest of your five cards (as long as there are no pairs/straights/flushes). Therefore an 8-7-6-5-3 beats 9-5-4-3-2. A-5-4-3-2 is ace high and not a straight.

Playing the game live:

  • Make sure to put out the right amount of cards – you’re not allowed to change this after you’ve put them out.

Pro tips:

  • Since the betting is no limit, it can sometimes be smart to draw even though you would be a favorite standing pat. Breaking a hand like J8543 heads-up or even a hand like T7432 3-way could often be a good choice with plenty of chips behind.
  • Snowing, standing pat with a bad hand, could be used sparingly with hands that block a lot of the best cards (for example 77222) – but remember, the player drawing should/will often take over the betting lead.
  • Remember there are only 2 betting streets, you will often need to lead out of position for a chance to valuebet or to bluff.
