HOW TO PLAY
Sviten Special (Drawmaha)
A nordic fan favorite combining 5 card draw and (5c) omaha to make up for an exciting and strategically complex game, yet filled with thrill and excitement. You get dealt 5 cards, and there will be 4 rounds of betting as per usual, preflop, flop, turn and river. After the flop action all remaining players will be able to discard/draw as many cards as they want. The one little detail that differentiate Sviten Special (Drawmaha) from Drawmaha is that if you elect to only discard 1 card, you’ll get dealt a card face up and can choose whether you want that card, if not you get dealt the next card off the deck face down. Play then resume as normal with the turn being dealt and the betting action resumes. At showdown the pot is split between the best 5 card draw hand and the best PLO hand – and of course if one player has both, then it’s a scoop!
Playing the game live:
- Make sure to not flip over your cards if you find yourself all-in either preflop or on the flop! With drawing action to be completed after the flop, there is no showdown before this very draw is completed.
- Be aware of your opponents drawing action, and especially whether they elect to keep the card offered face up, if somebody snatches the 3c on KhTs8d, the chances are they just made a full 5 card draw hand!
Pro tips:
- Be careful playing strong Omaha hands that are weak in 5 card draw. It’s much easier for you to lose to a mediocre omaha hand, than it is for you to outdraw their 5 card draw hand. Also keep in mind that with a hand like AQJT8ds you will often be forced to either part ways with the strength of your omaha hand, or to give up on your chances to improve to a hand that could win the 5 card draw half.
- Aces are powerful, although weak aces isn’t the strongest 5c omaha hand, you’re likely to be able to pick up nutsuits and better connection with the board when you miss the flop.
- Weak two pairs are very vulnerable in this game and often suffer in multiway scenarios.
- With super strong 5c draw hands like QQQ, consider inducing multiway action, with the big handicap in the Omaha part you’re rather unlikely to scoop, but winning half of a multiway pot is always helpful!
