HOW TO PLAY

Fixed Limit A-5 Triple Draw

Aim of the game is to make the lowest possible poker hand. Han rankings work as inn razz 5-4-3-2-A is the nuts, flushes and straights do not count against you, and A are only low.

The betting and drawing works just like in 2-7 Triple Draw, you get dealt five cards, and can draw as many cards as you like, up to three times. The betting starts with a small and a big blind, action starts to the left of the big blind pre draw, and to the left of the button after the draws. There is a betting round before/after every draw round, for a total of 4 betting rounds. Before the first and second draw there will be small bets (equal to one big blind) and after the second and third draw there are the big bet streets (two big blinds). A total of one bet and four raises is allowed on each street.

Your hand strength is defined by the highest of your five cards. as long as the hand is unpaired. Therefore a 7-6-5-3-2 beats 8-4-3-2-A. If both players have a pair, the lowest pair wins, 8-7-4-A-A beats 5-4-3-3-A

Playing the game live:

  • Look at the burn cards to make sure you know which street you are on: 1 burn card means you have discarded once, 2 means you’re done with the second draw, and the 3 burn cards means there are no more drawing rounds.
  • Make sure to put out the right amount of cards – you’re not allowed to change this after you’ve put them out.
  • Act in turn, even when drawing, and remember that tapping the table means you want to stand pat (to not draw any more cards) – remember that you are allowed to stand pat on a drawing round, and later in the hand decide to draw again.

Pro tips:

  • Hands at showdown tend to be much stronger than in 2-7 triple draw since you can use the ace as a low card, AND you can make strong low hands that are straights.
  • Aim at making 7-low or better from the start when heads-up, multiway you usually discard the 7 and aim for 6 -low or better.
  • Rougher hands are much more powerful than in 2-7, a hand like 543 is totally playable from late position.
  • When both players discard one card at the last round in a heads-up pot, be careful to not bluff too much, aim at bluffing 55 and worse – value bet most hands T-low or better.
